Serene Beauty: Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary
The Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the most popular tourist places which is known for its biodiversity conservation. The Sanctuary is sheltered in the arms of nature and garlanded with a pleasing landscape, flourishing flora and assists as a living outdoor museum. It is situated between Bhandara district and Gondia district of Maharashtra. It has a wide range of fishes, mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians.


Tigers and leopard can be frequently spotted, however, the true entreaty of the forest lies in the emblems of their presence. Pugmarks on the mud roads and territory markings on trees specify the presence of big cats. There are also frisky sambars, langurs, wild dogs and sloth bears and if you are fortunate, you might spot a peacock too. The central lake is a biggest spot for glimpsing birds such as drongo, oriole, and ground thrush.  Moreover, in the middle of Nagzira there is a temple of ‘”Naag” (snake) and also a temple of the forest. The name of the sanctuary came from the name of the temple where zira (zara) in Marathi means a perennial source of water that comes out from a hill in pongezara, Nagzira.
Best seasons to visit
The sanctuary is open from October to June, however, the best season to visit starts from February to May. It is closed during the rains when the velocity of the wind is also at the peak. The summer temperature may rise to 45 degree and the winter temperature may drop to 6.5 degrees.

By Air: The nearest airport is Nagpur which is 122 km away.
By Train: The nearest railway is Gondia railway station which is 45 km away.
By Road: It is connected by road and can also be reached by using public or private cars or bus. Navegoan is the nearest bus stand which is 10 km away from the park.

Central India like Kanha National Park, Pench National Park, Tadoba National Park, Umred-Karandla wildlife sanctuary etc. are some of the places which should be covered. heir are some nearby Nagzira attractions like Pratapgad (15 kms), Tibetan Camp at Gothangaon which is 15 km away and Itiadoh Dam which is 20 km away.
